U.S. chemicals operations

ExxonMobil Chemical has three major complexes in the U.S. including Baytown and Beaumont, Texas, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. These facilities provide premium products to the Americas and worldwide.

Nearly half of our global capacity is located in the U.S., where we manufacture products for all of our business lines, including:

ExxonMobil Chemical Headquarters is located in Houston, Texas, along with business line management.

The company’s major chemical plants are integrated with refineries and have access to feedstocks ranging from light gases to heavy liquids. These plants are also tied into the region’s natural gas liquid supply hubs, allowing for unmatched capacity to process low-cost ethane. This level of downstream and upstream integration maximizes the flexibility to process advantaged feeds into premium products.

The U.S. is also home to two of ExxonMobil Chemical’s five technology centers including the Baytown Technology & Engineering Complex in Baytown, Texas and the Akron Business & Technology Center in Akron, Ohio. The technology centers support ExxonMobil Chemical’s primary research and customer applications.

U.S. pipeline operations

Each day, ExxonMobil Pipeline Company (EMPCo) and its affiliates transport about 2.8 million barrels of the following products through approximately 8,000 miles of pipeline in 10 states and the Gulf of Mexico:

• Crude oil
• Refined petroleum products
• Liquefied petroleum gases
• Natural gas liquids
• Chemical feedstocks (such as butane, benzene, ethylene, propylene and resins)

Pipelines are the safest, most efficient and environmentally friendly means of transporting petroleum products, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. To safely operate our pipelines, EMPCo follows a comprehensive Integrity Management Program that includes:

Regularly maintaining our system using cleaning devices and cathodic protection to prevent corrosion

Running diagnostic tools and tests to detect corrosion or damage to our pipelines before a leak could occur

Additionally, EMPCo performs surveillance of our systems including:

• Performing patrols on the ground and in the air
• Monitoring our operations 24 hours a day through a centralized control center
• Using sophisticated computers, alarms and other technologies designed to immediately implement protective measures should a leak be detected

U.S. Upstream operations

Exploration

ExxonMobil continues to actively pursue exploration activities in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. We are one of the largest leaseholders in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico with interests in 339 deepwater blocks.

In 2013, ExxonMobil was awarded the right to explore seven blocks in up to 7,200 feet of water within the Central Gulf of Mexico.

Production

ExxonMobil U.S. Production operates in five states — California, Texas, Wyoming, Louisiana and Alabama — as well as in federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico and offshore Santa Barbara County.

In addition to producing oil and natural gas, other products for sale include natural gas liquids, helium and carbon dioxide. Products are transported via truck or pipeline to refineries and customers throughout the United States.

ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company (URC), based out of Houston, TX, is charged with developing an array of industry-leading technologies that supports ExxonMobil’s continued leadership in exploration, development, production and gas commercialization. URC recruits and develops the industry's leading scientific and engineering talent, most of whom hold doctoral degrees. At URC, a diverse set of researchers from various countries and academic disciplines collaborate together to develop and deliver technologies and solutions that make ExxonMobil the partner of choice.

XTO Energy Inc. was founded in 1986 in Fort Worth, Texas. Safely and responsibly extracting natural gas from U.S. shale and other tight formations is our principal business. We also produce crude oil and natural gas liquids in the United States.

We operate throughout the United States, from the Great Plains to Appalachia. We own interests in approximately 40,000 producing oil and natural gas wells across the country.
