MAPUTO, Mozambique – ExxonMobil Moçambique, Limitada, in partnership with the Mozambique Ministry of Education and Culture, donated 120 laptops to eight public schools in the city of Pemba in Cabo Delgado to help launch their computer labs. Girl Child Rights, a Mozambican association operating in Cabo Delgado, will lead the establishment of the eight computer labs and train students on how to access free online learning programs.
The donation builds on the existing relationship with the Ministry of Education and Culture and supports the official launch of the Mozambique national school system. The announcement was made at the Gingone Secondary School, presided over by the Governor of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, where the first of eight computer labs was set up.
“STEM Education is a key pillar of ExxonMobil’s global community investment strategy, and we are excited to partner with the government of Mozambique to expand STEM education to benefit more youth,” said Arne Gibbs, general manager for ExxonMobil Moçambique, Limitada. “The program will help improve digital literacy and prepare students for future academic and employment opportunities.”
Pemba schools to receive desktop computers include Samora Machel; 19 de Outubro; Gingone; Paquitiquete 2; Cariaco; Natite; Ingonane; and Amizade Moçambique. Together, these schools enroll 40,117 students.
