From classrooms to careers: empowering Indonesia's youth with STEM

  • Indonesia recognizes STEM education as an important enabler within its Golden Indonesia 2045 Plan.
  • We have made STEM education a focus of our community support.
  • We launched a new STEM education program designed to reach students who have had fewer opportunities to engage with technology.

Indonesia wants to enter a new golden era by 2045.

As part of its long‑term vision, the government has highlighted the importance of strengthening STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) capabilities, as reflected in its Golden Indonesia 2045 Plan. This is because learning outcomes in STEM are an area that needs improvement, with Indonesia trailing several regional peers in the student science performance area.

To halt this trend, Indonesia launched "STEM Indonesia Cerdas". This national plan provides STEM education to millions of students and teachers. But this big job isn't being done alone.

As one of Indonesia’s key partners, we are backing its Golden Era plans by bringing the world of robotics and artificial intelligence directly to students, igniting their passion for STEM careers.

Partnering with Prestasi Junior Indonesia, we launched a STEM-focused learning program for students.

Sparking passion: our hands-on approach

Imagine young hands, often with limited access to advanced technology, programming robots and bringing them to life. This is becoming a reality at Sekolah Rakyat schools in South Jakarta, a flagship, government-run, tuition-free boarding school established by the President of Indonesia to support students from low-income backgrounds.

Indonesia inspiring future STEM careers through mentorship and project-based learning
We're inspiring future STEM careers through mentorship and project-based learning.

ExxonMobil Corporation Senior Vice President Jack Williams and ExxonMobil Indonesia President Wade Floyd recently witnessed this firsthand, as students enthusiastically learned to code and build robots.

This STEM education is essential to unlocking innovation and building globally competitive skills, while experiences like this help support Indonesia’s growth and create stronger opportunities for the next generation.

A legacy of STEM commitment

This commitment is not new. We have consistently prioritized STEM skills in local community support programs, from elementary school robotics and coding to high school mentorship. Last year, this dedication extended to the "Green Innovation Camp", a STEM-focused program for high schoolers in collaboration with Prestasi Junior Indonesia (part of Junior Achievement Worldwide).

By investing in the minds of today's youth, ExxonMobil and Indonesia are actively building the architects of tomorrow's "Golden Era."
