Growth, progress, and supporting Indonesia — that’s been at the heart of the Cepu Block story for two decades.
Twenty years ago, ExxonMobil came together with Indonesia’s national oil company, Pertamina and four government-owned entities under Badan Kerja Sama (BKS) PI Blok Cepu, with a shared vision: unlocking the energy potential of Cepu Block. Through collaboration, dedication, and trust, together we made this vision a reality.
By contributing nearly one-third of Indonesia’s oil production, Cepu Block has strengthened the nation’s energy security and resilience while driving economic growth. Over the years, this partnership has delivered for the country — safely producing hundreds of millions of barrels of oil and creating lasting benefits for communities.
This journey reflects the power of partnership — combining ExxonMobil’s competitive advantages with strong local collaboration. And we’re proud to have been entrusted as the operator of the Cepu Block, a role that has seen us turn challenges into opportunities and deliver differentiated value that empower Indonesia.
As we celebrate this milestone, we look back at its journey, hear from the people who know it best, and look ahead to how Cepu Block will continue powering Indonesia’s future.
