BAYTOWN, Texas — The ExxonMobil Foundation has awarded Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District (GCCISD) a historic $180,000 grant to strengthen Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education, improve elementary science achievement and expand learning opportunities for students and families throughout the district.
The grant represents the largest contribution the ExxonMobil Foundation has ever provided to GCCISD and will support two district-wide initiatives focused on student achievement and STEM engagement.
Funding will help launch the Elementary Science Achievement Initiative, which will provide enhanced science curriculum resources and instructional support for fifth-grade students preparing for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) Science exam. The initiative is designed to improve science learning outcomes across the district while supporting measurable growth for all student populations, including emergent bilingual learners.
The grant will also support the GCCISD STEM Exploration and Family Engagement Initiative, which aims to connect students and families with STEM careers, educational pathways and hands-on learning experiences. A districtwide STEM Night planned for this fall is expected to engage more than 3,000 students and family members through interactive activities, demonstrations and career exploration opportunities.
"Strong STEM education programs help prepare students for future success while strengthening the workforce pipeline our communities and industries depend on," said Orjanel Lewis, Baytown Area Socioeconomic Manager. "We are proud to collaborate with Goose Creek CISD to provide meaningful learning opportunities that inspire curiosity, innovation and achievement."
