Earlier this week, Old Doha Port hosted its annual Seabed Cleaning Initiative, bringing together over 70 certified divers, volunteers and partners, including ExxonMobil Qatar, to remove marine debris and protect Qatar’s coastal environment.

The divers worked at depths of up to six meters, retrieving plastics, fishing nets, and other waste that threaten marine life and navigation. Each piece of debris removed served as a reminder of the challenges our environment faces and the power of collective action to make a difference.

For ExxonMobil Qatar, supporting this initiative is part of a broader commitment to sustainability. While the cleanup focused on removing waste from the seabed, the real challenge lies in determining how to manage and repurpose this waste once it has been extracted.

This effort highlighted one of our advantage capabilities and the importance of advanced plastic recycling technology, which can transform plastic waste into valuable resources, helping build a circular economy. Innovations like this represent the future of plastic waste management and ExxonMobil is driving progress in this area globally.

The Seabed Cleaning Initiative is more than an environmental project; it’s a community movement. It reflects Qatar’s vision for a sustainable future and the shared responsibility to protect natural resources. Together, we are advancing toward cleaner waters, healthier ecosystems, and a better tomorrow.
