Sci-Tech Challenge

The Sci-Tech Challenge is a competition for students aged 15 to 18 that is held every year. The competition is part of a broader initiative by JA Europe and ExxonMobil to encourage young Europeans to opt for a technical/scientific education. In the Belgium, ExxonMobil works in the organization of the Sci-Tech Challenge together with Vlajo - Vlaamse Jonge Ondernemingen (Flemish Young Businesses).

Solutions for energy challenges

Each year, dozens of students in Flanders take part in the Sci-Tech Challenge progam, which consists of class visits by ExxonMobil employees, a quiz, and a national competition day, the Sci-Tech Challenge.

Within a relatively short time, student teams aged 15 to 18 develop realistic and affordable ideas that address today’s energy challenges. They refine their concepts using their own knowledge and insights, supported by expert volunteers from ExxonMobil. A professional jury evaluates the proposals based on energy needs, emission reduction potential, cost analysis, creativity, quality and team spirit. The winners of the national Sci-Tech Challenge can then advance to the European Sci-Tech Challenge, where they compete with the winners from the other participating countries.
