We have hiring programs in most countries where we operate. These include local internship programs, many of which have been in place for years and are an important early investment in talent and talent identification. Graduates of these programs become integral to our team. For example, in Guyana, nearly half the interns from the 2024 inaugural internship class were hired full time in 2025.

Our internships provide hands-on, unique opportunities for students around the world. The global breadth of our operations makes diversity foundational to who we are. With active hiring in 30 countries, we continuously build a workforce from the communities in which we operate. Hiring programs support our ability to successfully attract campus and experienced talent into roles across the Company. We leverage our hiring programs to supplement internal development as we consider growth areas and skill needs.

Qualified talent is recruited from broad sources available in the communities where we operate, building a diverse and healthy talent pipeline. Hiring programs are monitored and assessed for effectiveness, including analysis of the availability of qualified talent through multiple lenses. This global approach fosters a workforce comprised of individuals with varying backgrounds and experiences, strengthening teams that operate with courage, candor, and a shared desire to raise living standards while lowering emissions.

  • In the U.S., we utilize labor market information to understand the pool of talent available2. In 2025, 40% of our professional hires3 were minorities and 31% were women.
  • The ExxonMobil Fawley apprenticeship scheme, which began in 1952, has graduated more than 200 apprentices since 2005, with over half continuing to work at the plant today.

In the fall of 2024, the ExxonMobil Foundation launched two pilot Teen Engineering and Tech Centers in Spring and Houston, Texas, serving hundreds of promising young students across the state’s largest and most diverse metro area. The hands-on after-school curriculum includes robotics, coding, chemistry and more through dedicated lab spaces, 3D and laser printing, and computer-aided design (CAD) — all aimed at building the essential skills and technological literacy students need to succeed in STEM college programs and future careers. Wraparound services are also provided (e.g., transportation, academic support, college counseling, meals) to remove barriers and support retention. 

We began our second year of programming in August 2025 with 96% of first-cohort students returning as sophomores, joined by 130 new freshmen. We’re thrilled to see students regularly show up after school, even on optional programming days like a Friday afternoon.

These centers are developed in collaboration with local, high-need high schools. Upon proof of concept, our goal is to expand in other U.S. locations and internationally where needs exist, including our latest announcement to support Guyana.

In late February 2026, ExxonMobil announced the Guyana STEM Initiative (GSI), a $100 million, 10‑year investment to expand STEM education initiatives across the country. The GSI will provide coordinated programming for students and teachers across all levels of STEM learning and aims to inspire the next generation of Guyanese engineers and scientists by working with students and the teachers who educate them.

We’re also planning to open the country’s first-ever STEM Centre, at the University of Guyana in Georgetown. It will give students and teachers a dedicated place for hands‑on learning and collaboration, and it will serve as a model for an additional center and satellite centers planned across the country.

Operating in 54 countries, we look to engage with local communities where we operate to provide education and hands-on work experience. This provides access to diverse local talent pools and builds the local talent pipeline that is instrumental in running our operations.
