EBRSS Investment
We have invested more than $1 million to support the East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRSS) from 2023-2025. The funding is supporting the following initiatives:
- Math and science literacy training for teachers via the National Math and Science Initiative
- Kindergarten through 3rd grade literacy programs
- Summer craft internship salaries and on-the-job experiences for EBRSS students interested in industry careers
- Scholarships for Scotlandville Middle and Scotlandville High students in the LSU Future Scholars program
- Sponsoring students for the Southern University Engineering Summer Institute
High School Internship Program
Rising juniors and seniors can get industry experience (and a head start on their futures!) by participating in ExxonMobil's eight-week High School Internship Program. Through the program, students can explore careers as electricians, instrument technicians, machinists, pipefitters, welders, analyzer technicians, laboratory technicians, engineers and more – all while working 40-hour weeks and earning a competitive wage. The program started in 2021 with six students and has grown significantly each year.
Each student has an employee mentor and is receiving hands-on training in addition to working on an intensive technical project throughout the summer. Beyond career exploration, the program includes volunteering, resume building, interview skills, presentation skills and contractor site visits.
ExxonMobil Career Exploration Academy
ExxonMobil Career Exploration Academy is a week-long summer program in coordination with Baton Rouge Community College. Students will visit a variety of workplaces to learn first-hand about technical careers and the education necessary to secure those careers.
North Baton Rouge Industrial Training Initiative
We strive to create and maintain a diverse workforce, representative of the community where we work. Founded by ExxonMobil in 2012 in collaboration with Baton Rouge Community College, The North Baton Rouge Industrial Training Initiative (NBRITI) provides basic craft training in electrical, instrumentation, millwright, pipefitting, process technology and welding at no cost to qualifying participants. Students learn through fast-tracked classroom and hands-on training, which also includes life skills and workforce preparation. Graduates earn nationally recognized construction certifications from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).
NBRITI is a collaborative effort of diverse community, industrial and educational entities throughout the greater Baton Rouge area, all committed to one goal: to recruit, train, develop and sustain a pipeline for North Baton Rouge residents to have successful careers with local industrial employers. The program works to place all graduates in full-time positions in their respective fields.
For more information, visit mybrcc.edu/NBRITI.
We offer six-month internships that could lead to full-time employment through an apprenticeship. Visit exxonmobil.com/careers to view available openings.
ExxonMobil LSU Scholars Programs
As we work to create sustainable solutions that improve the quality of life and meet society’s evolving needs, we need the best talent available. Students are the future problem solvers, creators and leaders to help us achieve innovations that will advance modern living and a net-zero future.
The ExxonMobil LSU Engineering Scholars Program has been funded at LSU since 2003. The program focuses on four goals:
- Attracting more underrepresented students in the College of Engineering
- Providing scholarship funding through graduation to allow students time to focus on their studies instead of working part time
- Creating a network of mentoring support from career professionals
- Increasing retention, graduation and employment rates for the College of Engineering.
