ExxonMobil has interests in three producing deepwater blocks (Blocks 15, 17, and 32) covering nearly 3 million gross acres in Angola. These blocks contain world-class development opportunities and have a gross recoverable resource potential of approximately 9 billion oil-equivalent barrels. Across these blocks, our net production in Angola averaged 100 thousand barrels of oil per day in 2024.
Block 15
- ExxonMobil was awarded operatorship of Block 15 in 1994; the first discovery was made in 1998.
- Esso Exploration Angola (Block 15) Ltd., as operator, holds a 36% interest in the block. Other coventurers are Azule Energy Exploration (Angola) Limited (24%), Azule Energy Angola BV. (18%), Equinor Angola Block 15 A.S. (12%) and Sonangol Exploração e Produção, S.A. (10%). The group holds rights to explore, develop and produce in Block 15 acreage of 1044 km² (258,000 acres) offshore Angola.
- Block 15 has 19 discoveries, with total recoverable resource of approximately 3 billion barrels of oil.
- First oil was produced in 2003 from the Xikomba development project, followed by startups at Kizomba A (2004), Kizomba B (2005), Marimba North (2007), Kizomba C-Mondo and Kizomba C-Saxi/Batuque (2008), Kizomba Satellites Phase 1 (2012) and Kizomba Satellites Phase 2 (2015).
- Since start of oil production in 2003, Block 15 has produced over 2.7 billion barrels of oil.
Block 17
- Esso Exploration Angola (Block 17) Ltd. has a 19% interest in Block 17, operated by Total Energies (38%). The contractor group also includes Equinor (22.16%), Azule Energy Exploration (Angola) Limited (15.84%) and Sonangol Exploração e Produção (5%).
- Block 17 covers 4,000 km² (988,000 acres.
- The first discovery was made in 1996. Through year-end 2015, 15 discoveries had been made, with a gross recoverable resource potential of approximately 5 billion oil-equivalent barrels.
- First oil was produced in December 2001 from the Girassol floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) system. Other production facilities include the Dalia and Pazflor FPSOs.
- The latest development of Cravo, Lirio, Orquidea, and Violeta (CLOV) discoveries by the CLOV FPSO started production in June 2014.
Block 32
- Esso Exploration and Production Angola (Overseas) Ltd. has a 15% interest in Block 32, operated by Total Energies (30%). The contractor group also includes Sonangol Exploração e Produção S.A. (30%), SSI 32 (20%) and SOMOIL Block 32 B.V. (5%).
- Discovered in 4,600-6,500 ft. water depth and 162 miles offshore Luanda, Block 32 covers 5,090 km² (1.3 million acres).
- The first discovery was made in 2003. Through year-end 2015, 13 discoveries have been announced, with a total recoverable resource of approximately 1 billion oil-equivalent barrels.
- The Kaombo Project is to develop six discoveries from two Development Areas: North (Gengibre, Gindungo, Caril) and South (Louro, Mostarda, Canela).
- The first FPSO (Kaombo Norte) started up in July of 2018 and the second FPSO (Kaombo Sul) started up in April 2019.
