What’s the secret to transforming from local support to enabling global success?
For our Bangkok Global Business Center (GBC), it’s our people – their adaptability, growth mindset, resiliency and agility over the 20 years of change and growth.
The GBC comprises 2,000 people working across engineering, products, logistics, finance, HR and IT — connecting the dots behind ExxonMobil’s global operations. They are the engine driving transformation from within.
“It’s a big job supporting ExxonMobil’s global footprint, requiring the ability to work closely with different businesses across multiple countries and languages in a fast-paced environment,” says Jiraphan Ssukravee, who leads the center.
“But the GBC is a great enabler now connecting it all from start to finish.”

Evolving beyond basic support
The ability to build these connections didn’t happen overnight.
In the past, we did the job, completed activities and moved on. It was effective, though we believed that collaboration could have been stronger,” Jiraphan recalls.
“We realized that to elevate our support and value proposition, we needed to work differently, needed more integration and a change of approach. And most importantly, we needed to put a lot of focus on agility learning and our people’s development.”
“At the heart of this was moving beyond transactional support to help enable and empower the people we work with, bringing more value.”
She adds the company developed a new corporate operating model which helps integrate processes from end to end, helping people connect the dots and work more collaboratively. “
“We’ve also brought in accountability,” Jiraphan explains. “For example, finance group now sits as part of business leadership teams and is accountable for the bottom line, evolving from a supporting relationship to an end-to-end partnership.”

The Thailand difference
So, what makes it all possible? Our Thai talent.
Throughout ExxonMobil, it has always been our people that make the difference — and Thailand brings unique strengths to the table.
“We have a large pool of multilingual talents and experts, in various fields ranging from STEM to finance, business and more. Also, Thai culture is known for its adaptability and customer focus,” Jiraphan says.
“Our ultimate goal is to grow this mindset and make our Bangkok GBC the hub for making things happen.”
Jiraphan says the success of Bangkok GBC is driven by five factors: collaboration, resilience, adaptability, innovation, and a global, value-driven mindset.
“All of this, combined with Thai culture and capability, amplifies what we do.”
Partnerships in practice
Just to give some examples, this approach was integral in helping to accelerate our multi-billion-dollar petrochemical complex in China’s Dayawan Industrial Park from announcement to launch in just four years. Projects of this scale often take six or even ten years.
“It was a massive project and our teams worked within aggressive timelines, helping to navigate several complex local requirements and streamlining solutions as an integral part to make it all happen,” Jiraphan says.
Other projects include supporting the commodity trading desks in Singapore and building tools and dashboards to help traders make better decisions.
“It’s about enabling higher-value work, about how we equip business lines to make better and faster decisions through our support,” she adds.
Another massive project was upgrading our global IT systems and to have one aligned network, streamlining and unifying all our global key enterprise systems. This isn’t a typical upgrade—it’s a complete transformation to streamline enterprise systems and simplify processes across all countries, business lines, and platforms. Many Bangkok GBC staff members are deeply involved, with several leading global efforts.
With our partnership-driven approach and commitment to continuous growth, our Bangkok GBC is positioning itself not just as a support center but as an engine behind ExxonMobil’s global success.
