This year we celebrate 10 Years of Partnership, Growth and Success of the PNG LNG Project, a significant production milestone. Operated by ExxonMobil, the PNG LNG Project is the largest private sector investment in PNG’s history (USD $19 billion at the time of development).

Over its first decade, PNG LNG has routinely produced more than 8.5 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG), 20% above its nameplate capacity, for export to major customers in the Asia Pacific region. Along the way, we have helped deliver more than USD $8 billion (or PGK 30.2 billion) in benefits for the State of Papua New Guinea and its people.

The secret to our success: Our workforce. Our greatest asset is undeniably our 3,500 staff, of which 90% are PNG nationals. Their hard work and dedication have been invaluable in achieving this 10-year milestone. With natural gas – and LNG in particular – set to play an even larger role in the energy mix in the decades to come, we know that the investments we make today in our Papua New Guinean workforce will sustain and grow our business for tomorrow and beyond.

Partnerships have been a key to our shared success in Papua New Guinea, and we are doing our part to recognize and celebrate those advancing our industry and the country. In 2023, we launched The Power Play Awards Papua New Guinea. This global program seeks to recognize the achievements of the women and men for their contributions to the LNG and decarbonization industries. In its first 2 years, the PNG program has fielded two Global Power Play Awards winners. This is a true testament to the contributions of Papua New Guineans to the success of the country’s LNG industry and serves to further strengthen PNG’s reputation on the global stage.

What’s next?

With our talented workforce, proximity to market, high-quality resources, and supportive partners, PNG LNG is well positioned to continue supporting regional energy demand for decades to come. Here’s to 10 more years!
