Esso Norge AS is an affiliate of Exxon Mobil Corporation. The Esso Norge AS head office is located at Slagentangen, near Tønsberg.
We have had a presence in Norway since 1893. The history of Esso in Norway is also to a large extent the story of Norway’s emergence as a modern nation. The energy products produced and offered by the company have been important building blocks in the development of today’s society – from lamp oil distributed by horse and cart more than a century ago, to petroleum production in the North Sea and the marketing of motor fuels and oils for cars, ships, aircraft and industry.
The refinery at Slagentangen was converted into a fuel terminal in 2021. Today, products are imported to the Slagen terminal and then distributed along the coast to our own terminals in Fredrikstad, Bergen and Trondheim as well as to customers' terminals around Norway.
Our sales department is located at Slagen and offers high-quality fuel products to our customers from a nationwide terminal network. Our fuel products are used in both the transportation and maritime sectors.
In 2017 the company sold its retail stations business to the Irish company DCC plc., which operates the business through its Norwegian subsidiary, Certas Energy Norway AS, in line with long term agreements for the use of the Esso brand. Supplies of fuels products are sold under the Esso and Mobil brands.
Esso offers some of the world's leading lubricants to various sectors under the Mobil brand. Our lubricants are designed to provide maximum performance and protection.
In 2017 and 2019, we sold our exploration and production interests on the Norwegian Continental Shelf to Point Resources / Vår Energi.
