Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and imagine a brighter future. At ExxonMobil, we believe in the power of community and the role we can play in unlocking that potential—especially for those who need it most. Local investments, focused on economic and educational benefits, are one of the key ways we support the communities in which we operate. Our efforts are guided by a simple aim: to help create opportunities that empower underprivileged families and inspire the next generation.
In Hong Kong, this commitment came to life through our support of the STEAM – Smart Home with Innovation Program, delivered in partnership with St. James’ Settlement (SJS) under its Brightens Children’s Lives Service. Over six months, from December 2024 to May 2025, 52 primary school students from three local schools embarked on a journey of discovery—one that brought technology, creativity, and compassion together.
For many of these students, this was their first hands-on experience with coding and Micro:bit technology. Across 24 interactive workshops, they did not just learn technical skills—they learned how to think differently, to collaborate, and to solve real-world problems. Inspired by the needs of elderly members of the community, the students designed smart home prototypes aimed at preventing household accidents. What began as classroom exercises soon evolved into thoughtful, innovative solutions with a clear social purpose.
The journey did not stop at invention. To deepen their understanding, students visited the Jockey Club “Age at Home” Gerontech Education and Rental Service Centre, where learning took on a more personal dimension. By stepping into the shoes of elderly individuals—experiencing mobility limitations and interacting with assistive technologies—they began to see the world from a different perspective. Conversations with occupational therapists, alongside interactive exhibits and games, brought home an important lesson: technology is not just about innovation; it is about improving lives.
Beyond the classroom, our efforts also focus on strengthening families and fostering a sense of belonging. On November 8, 2025, we supported a family day organized by SJS for 43 participants from 13 low-income families. Held at a local farm, the event offered a welcome pause from the challenges of daily life. Parents and children spent quality time together, enjoying simple moments of recreation, laughter, and connection. For many, it was an opportunity not only to relax, but to build new friendships and feel part of a supportive community.
These stories are just a glimpse of how collective efforts can create lasting impact. By working closely with trusted community partners, ExxonMobil continues to support initiatives that nurture potential, strengthen resilience, and open doors to opportunity. Because when we invest in people—especially young minds—we help build not just brighter futures for individuals, but stronger, more inclusive communities for all.
