ExxonMobil has a long history of producing traditional fuels and is leveraging that expertise to develop lower-emission fuels that can help customers reduce emissions across land, sea, and air transportation. In Hong Kong, we launched Esso™ Renewable Diesel R20 in 2024, becoming the first supplier of renewable diesel for public road use in the city. Building on two years of experience helping customers reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with this product, we were invited by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) Environment & Sustainability Committee to share our insights on October 7, 2026.
The seminar, "Transitioning to Low-Carbon Products and Supply Chains for a Carbon Neutral Future," brought together more than 30 business leaders and professionals to explore how businesses can integrate decarbonization into their corporate strategies and investment decisions. Tony Kwok, ExxonMobil Hong Kong & Macau Fuels Sales Director and a member of HKGCC's Transport and Logistics Committee, joined four other industry speakers to exchange views on the opportunities and challenges of the energy transition. Drawing on ExxonMobil's journey in Hong Kong, Tony highlighted the role of practical lower-emission solutions in helping customers reduce emissions. He shared insights from the launch of Esso™ Renewable Diesel R20 in 2024 and discussed how customers have incorporated the fuel into their emissions-reduction efforts.
Made with a minimum of 20% renewable content, Esso Renewable Diesel R20 is a high-quality renewable diesel with an estimated 15.4%* lower lifecycle GHG emissions compared to conventional diesel. It is suitable for immediate use in all existing diesel engines and delivers excellent protection and cleaning performance through the proprietary Esso Synergy™ additive.
Tony noted growing interest in renewable diesel among businesses seeking practical ways to reduce their carbon footprint. He added that the expansion of Esso Renewable Diesel R20 to four service stations in Hong Kong will help make the product more accessible to commercial vehicle operators and support broader adoption.
Looking ahead, Tony emphasized that collaboration across government, energy industry, and the transport sector will be essential to accelerating the uptake of lower-emission solutions. Through supportive policies, continued innovation, and industry advocacy, renewable diesel and other lower-carbon products can play an important role in helping businesses advance their sustainability ambitions while contributing to a more sustainable future.
