We celebrate our educators
We hold memories of teachers in our school-going years who left an impact on our lives.
This year, we catch up with three former Caring Teacher Awards’ winners, one of whom was among the inaugural winners back in 1996!
2024 marks the 15th edition of the biennial Caring Teacher Awards.
A ceremony was held at Dunman High School to recognize the 10 new winners.
Cheers and claps filled the auditorium as current and former students showed up in force for the winners.
Their stories and contributions stood out from over 12,900 nominations received.
Minister of State for Education and Manpower Gan Siow Huang graced the event on September 16.
Extracts from the speech by Geraldine Chin, chairman and managing director, ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd.:
There is a saying that very much applies to the caring teachers whom we are recognizing today: “They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”
All the award winners here were nominated by their students and colleagues because they felt cared for.
The values that we instill in our children and young students are carried well beyond the classroom. Our educators have the potential to inspire resilience, instill empathy and nurture curiosity. They can also teach kindness, responsibility, and integrity.
These are also important in the business world.
Caring teachers remind us that the heart of education is not about the race to the top. It's about bringing people with us in our journey of growth.
They show us that success is also measured by the lives we touch and the communities that we build.
We are very glad and appreciative of our partnership with the National Institute of Education (NIE).
So, to our teachers, especially our award winners: Thank you for your patience, kindness, and unwavering belief in the potential of every student.
The Caring Teacher Awards is organized by the National Institute of Education, Singapore and supported by ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. and the Ministry of Education.
