STEM education is crucial for nurturing the next generation of innovators and leaders in relevant fields, and has always been one of ExxonMobil’s key focuses in community engagement. In Hong Kong, we are pleased to have collaborated with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to prepare local students for their academic and career pursuits in STEM.
Since 2016, ExxonMobil has been the exclusive supporter of the iSTEAM Program organized by the Center for Global & Community Engagement (GCE) at the HKUST School of Engineering. The 9th edition of the program, designed by HKUST students who received training in STEAM project design, was held on November 22, 2025. Featuring “Smartbot Jungle Games”, the program attracted 108 primary and secondary students from 18 local schools. Under the guidance of 20 HKUST students and five EMHK volunteers, the participants programmed their own catapult robots and magnetic tanks to take part in exciting competitions set in a mock jungle environment, with top-performing teams receiving awards in recognition of their problem-solving skills and teamwork. The event aims to help students acquire fundamental STEAM knowledge and spark their interest in the field, encouraging them to further pursue STEAM in the future.
The momentum of our collaboration with HKUST continued in 2026. On April 17, we hosted a job shadowing day for 10 HKUST School of Engineering students at the ExxonMobil Tsing Yi West Terminal. Guided by six EMHK mentors, the students toured the terminal and observed our operations, exploring various job opportunities where they could apply the STEM knowledge they have gained over the years. The mentors, some of whom are HKUST alumni, also shared valuable study tips and offered advice on job searching and career planning.
In fostering youth development, we have made STEM education a priority. We would like to express our gratitude to our long-term community partner HKUST, as well as our dedicated EMHK volunteers, for leveraging their expertise, experience, and professional skillsets to help students realize their potential and pursue their aspirations in STEM.
