Nurturing climate leaders to drive sustainable development

Protect Tomorrow. Today. is ExxonMobil’s guiding principle behind our approach to sustainability. It not only drives our mindset to be the most responsible operator in our industry, but also reflects our dedication to nurturing climate leaders by supporting youth programmes.

The 2025 Hong Kong 2050 is Now Young Environment Ambassador (YEA) Programme marks the third consecutive year that ExxonMobil Hong Kong (EMHK) has sponsored the event. Organized by Civic Exchange, the programme spanned over five months with 10 sessions covering four key topics: decarbonization, nature-based solutions, waste management, and sustainable consumption. It offered 30 students from 20 local secondary schools valuable opportunities to exchange ideas with sustainability professionals, learn from innovative environmental solutions through site visits, and interact with their peers.

On July 22, 2025, Wynne Leung, EMHK Public & Government Affairs Consultant, kicked off the first training session as a guest speaker. She shared ExxonMobil’s commitment to delivering on both sides of the “and” equation – meeting society’s needs for energy and essential products and reducing emissions, and introduced students to our initiatives in advancing lower-emission technologies such as carbon capture and storage, advanced biofuels, hydrogen, and lithium. Using the launch of Esso™ Renewable Diesel R20, the first renewable diesel for public road use in Hong Kong in 2024 as an example, she encouraged students to keep an open mind and adopt a multi-solution approach when addressing complex issues like climate change.

The programme concluded with students forming teams to develop and implement their own sustainable projects over three months, culminating in a showcase at the closing ceremony. Desmond Chan, ExxonMobil Hong Kong/Guangzhou/Shanghai Public & Government Affairs Vice President, and Loren Yung, ExxonMobil Huizhou Chemical Ltd. Public & Government Affairs Director, were invited to join the judging panel. The project that demonstrated the strongest combination of design thinking and project management skills received the ExxonMobil Best Potential Award.

“As a leader in the energy transition, we navigate this journey through investments in lower-emission solutions and initiatives that nurture the next generation of climate leaders. We hope to leverage our expertise in lower-emission solutions to inspire students to create solutions that make an impact not only during the programme period, but also in the future to come,” Desmond said.
