Members of the Mobil team spent a day at the KidsCan warehouse recently, helping to pack food to be sent to schools throughout Aotearoa New Zealand to support Kiwi kids.
Mobil’s partnership with KidsCan began in 2018 and has evolved over the years, with Mobil now a major partner of the charity.
KidsCan is a charity organisation that makes a real difference to thousands of tamariki across Aotearoa every day, ensuring kids who would otherwise go to school hungry, tired and miserable are nourished, cosy and ready to learn.
Mobil Oil New Zealand chair, Wayne Ellary, said, “I was absolutely thrilled to get out to KidsCan recently to volunteer in the warehouse along with my colleagues. I think it’s great that we had this chance to help Kiwi families in need.
“There’s something really fulfilling about giving back to your community and we were all very excited about the opportunity to contribute to this important cause,” Wayne said.
Mobil’s coffee cup campaign, launched in 2021, has been a big success. 10c from every hot beverage sold at Mobil service stations is donated to KidsCan, which has translated to a significant amount of money raised for KidsCan.
The volunteer day was extremely productive, with 70 pallets comprised of 2,845 boxes of food items packed and sent out for distribution to 53 schools across the country.
Orders included healthy snacks and meals to ensure tamariki are nourished and given the best chance to learn. These orders made up some of the 5 million food items that KidsCan send out annually to nearly 900 schools nationwide.
"We're so grateful to the team at Mobil for all their work to support KidsCan, from donating money from every cup of coffee sold, to coming into our warehouse to pack food to fuel children through the school day. It's a wonderful partnership and we couldn't do what we do without this support," said Julie Chapman, CEO and Founder of KidsCan Charitable Trust.
