The Australia Sales, Supply and Public & Government Affairs teams recently had the exciting opportunity to visit a Long-Range vessel (LR 2) that was berthed at Gellibrand wharf, the closest marine terminal to the Altona site.

The vessel, STI Grace, is regularly chartered to transport fuel between Singapore and Australia, along with her partner vessel STI Gauntlet. This voyage was carrying both diesel and ULP from ExxonMobil’s Singapore refinery for our Victorian customers.

With the Altona site now functioning as an import terminal, the use of Long-Range Vessels allows the Supply team to schedule larger ships to import more fuel, less often, improving efficiency and supporting Australia’s fuel security.

STI Grace is 255.9 metres in length and 43 metres wide and typically carries 120 million litres of product, which is enough to fill 1.5 million cars with fuel.

The ship’s crew were extremely helpful and generous with their time, hosting the group for a special tour to demonstrate the features of the ship, explaining how their crews and voyages operate.

Australia Sales Manager, Andrew McNaught, said, “This tour provided a wonderful opportunity for staff to see first-hand how we import fuel through our world-class facilities here in Melbourne to reliably supply almost half of Victoria’s fuel needs. We’re very grateful to the STI Grace crew for their hospitality.”
