Mobil is proud to support the Yarraville Community Centre’s Nourish Project, a program providing healthy cooked meals to local community members experiencing food insecurity.
The project was developed by Christine McCall, CEO of the Yarraville Community Centre (YCC), and her team, along with local neighbourhood houses, in response to increasing requests for food supplies in recent years.
The Nourish Project saves 1 tonne of food from landfill each month, transforming this donated food into nutritious free meals to distribute to people in need and provide volunteer opportunities for community members. The project also includes pop up markets where locals can choose fresh produce to take home and prepare their own healthy meals.
YCC welcomed Mobil staff recently for a tour, where they were able to see how the team prepares meals in a kitchen on-site. Meals are prepared weekly by qualified chefs and volunteers and distributed by local neighbourhood houses.
David Barker, Assistant Terminal Manager at Mobil’s Yarraville Terminal, said, “It was incredibly impressive to see how hard the relatively small kitchen and team at YCC works to source the food supplies and equally to prepare the various meals for those experiencing hardship and food insecurities.
Aside from their work with the Nourish Project, YCC is a vibrant community hub that provides education, training and support to more than 2000 people each week.
“It was awesome to see all the other classrooms and support services the Centre provides and we’re thrilled to be working with this incredible community centre,” said David.
