Long Island Point Plant Update - June 2024

Read Andrew Cooke’s latest update for the Hastings community.

I’m pleased to announce that we have recently received the necessary regulatory approvals to commission our Hastings Generation Plant Facility. Commissioning activities including the testing of our turbine generators have now begun, and we are on track for completion in the last quarter of 2024.

I’d like to recognise the great work the team has put in over the past few years in helping to deliver this important project – the first of its kind in Australia. Construction commenced in June 2023 and since then, the site has transformed into a modern power generation facility that will improve community and environmental outcomes.

Earlier this year, we had the opportunity to work with Deakin University on an ecological study of Western Port Bay. The study included the tagging of fish near the Long Island Point Plant jetty and this research will further enable various research studies to be conducted over the next few years to help build knowledge of the ecology of Western Port.

We would also like to recognise the development of our apprentices with two recently graduating from their course through our apprenticeship program. Both have been successful in finding opportunities supporting our maintenance team here at Long Island Point.
