Employee profile - David Levy
David Levy, Senior Integrity Engineer, graduated from Monash University with a double degree in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Technology. From a young age, he always marvelled at the mysteriousness of outer space and envisioned his career to be an astronaut floating in a space shuttle one day.
While his dreams of becoming an astronaut were never fulfilled due to limited aerospace opportunities in Australia at that time, David grasped the opportunity to pursue a career in the oil and gas industry instead and does not regret his decision one bit.
He currently supports our offshore assets as a technical subject matter contact for materials and corrosion concerns. He is also the program owner for corrosion protection and pressure equipment integrity programs offshore.
“My challenge in this role is to cast a fresh set of eyes across how we manage both our producing and non-producing platforms assets offshore. I think there are great opportunities to maximise the value of the remaining gas producing assets, as well as come up with fit for purpose approaches to maintaining the decommissioning platforms until their upcoming removal,” he highlighted.
David is also a chartered mechanical engineer with Engineers Australia and recently completed his MBA in Supply Chain & Logistics from the Australian Institute of Business.
In May, he did the company proud by winning the Steve Mackie Award for Best Extended Abstract at the 2024 Australian Energy Producers Conference. He presented his work on converting hydrocarbon gas pipelines to CO2 service as part of our South East Australia Carbon Capture and Storage project.
David has worked for various oil and gas operators but states that working for ExxonMobil has been the most rewarding so far.
“It might sound cliché, but I don’t think you’ll find a company with such awesome colleagues. Everyone is so knowledgeable and has a can-do attitude. The young engineers are very smart, motivated and eager to learn as well and everyone gets along like family,” he commented.
David credits his growth and development to the many supportive people he’s had the chance to work with throughout his time with the company.
“Everyone in this company is a superstar in their own right but if I had to name one person who has been instrumental to my growth, it would be Farrah Tan. I cannot commend her enough for her mentorship over the years. She really took the time and effort to show me the ropes and induct me into the culture here at ExxonMobil,” he expressed.
A doting father to two young children, David spends his weekends driving them to their sports activities, eating good food and going for walks with great company.
He also has a deep appreciation for environmental protection and enjoys experiencing new cultures and experiences through travel.
“One thing I’ve learnt from my time here is that there is no challenge too difficult that the team here can’t overcome. Everyday brings a new challenge which keeps my role exciting and being able to come to work everyday knowing that I am working alongside great people makes it so much more enjoyable,” he commented.
