- The company’s partnership with CIEE Rio enables access to university for low-income youths
- Enrollment is open from January 4 to February 29, 2016
The project, resulting from a partnership between ExxonMobil and the Company-School Integration Center of Rio de Janeiro (CIEE Rio), aims to provide access to good quality and free higher education through the personal, professional and cultural development of youths. Over this whole year, participants will also have the opportunity to plan their careers and prepare for the college entrance exams.
The 13th edition of the Mais Program will offer over 30 openings for 2016. Applicants can enroll by calling the phone numbers (21) 3213-9103 and 3213-9155, or via email. Students who completed high school in 2014 or 2015 in the public school system, of African descent, principally from low socio-economic classes and with available time are eligible to participate.
Over a decade of the project, 588 young people have been assisted by the Mais Program. Of these, 107 entered public institutions of higher learning, such as UFRJ, UERJ, UFRRJ, and private institutions, such as PUC-Rio, on scholarships. Some of these young people have already completed their university studies and are now in graduate school.
“Participants tend to be the first member of their family to go to college, which ends up influencing their whole social circle. The project has a high impact on the community,” says Valéria Moreno, Coordinator of Special Programs at CIEE Rio.
Project participants receive a meal card contingent upon 75 percent attendance. They also receive textbooks and transportation vouchers to attend entrance exam preparation classes and other project activities. The entrance exam preparation classes are offered by SerCidadão Universitário.
The students also receive professional guidance at CIEE Rio on a weekly basis and take part in cultural and professional workshops, career planning meetings and visits to universities and companies. Classes and activities begin in March and run through December.
