Inspiring engineering talents through STEAM education

Inspiring younger generations to consider a future career in STEAM is essential to nurturing the innovation needed to address societies’ energy challenges. ExxonMobil Hong Kong (EMHK) has exclusively sponsored the iSTEAM Program organized by the Center for Global & Community Engagement (GCE), School of Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to make STEAM education accessible to more young people and foster their engineering knowledge. There have been over 800 students benefited from this program since its inception in 2016.

On November 4, 157 primary and secondary school students and their teachers joined the Spider Robot STEAM Challenge, a program developed by HKUST students who had received prior training on project design, to learn about the basic principles of robotics and put them into practice through a variety of challenges. Eight types of awards were given to celebrate their active participation, as well as the camaraderie formed from the event. 

“The power to continue to innovate depends on nurturing the next generation of scientists and engineers, and we hope this event can nurture more young engineering talents by enhancing their interest in the discipline and provide an opportunity for participating teachers and HKUST students to exchange ideas on promoting STEAM education. I am proud of our contribution every year to help hundreds of students discover these fascinating subjects,” said Tony Kwok, EMHK Hong Kong/Macau Fuels Sales Director.
