Production and handling

The production field at Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada is located approximately 185 miles northeast of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The field is pipeline connected to Edmonton, Alberta and to Hardisty, Alberta with further pipeline connections to Eastern Canada and the Northern Tier of U.S. as well as connections to the export loadport of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Cold Lake Blend is an asphaltic heavy crude blend of bitumen (11API/5.5%S) and condensate (65API/0.1%S). Blend at loadport is typically 21.1API and 3.5%S. Blend ratio will vary marginally on a seasonal basis according to pipeline viscosity/temperature requirements. Current production is 200kbd of blend. 

Logistics Data

Loadport is at the Westridge Terminal located at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Terminal is operated by Trans Mountain Pipeline Company.

Trans Mountain applies a number of vessel restrictions based on conditions at the Westridge Terminal facilities and as advised by the Port of Vancouver Harbour Master's office. Trans Mountain must approve all vessels.

Maximum ship size is 110,000dwt. Typical cargo for Far East destinations is 500kb as limited by draft at the loading dock.

Typical market is the pipeline-connected North American market. Periodic spot cargo avails during winter periods ( non-asphalt season in North America).

Alternate markets in the past have been South Korea and Japan as well as USGC.
