Objectives
We integrate community health, safety and security elements into our impact assessments as a key component of our socioeconomic management approach. Where appropriate, our Environmental, Socioeconomic and Health Management Plans include Community Health, Safety and Security Plans.
Management and application
For example, in Papua New Guinea, our Community Health, Safety and Security Management Plan includes a summary of the identified risks, as well as mitigation and management measures. It also includes the monitoring required to determine the effectiveness of these measures. The plan considers risks, including those associated with road traffic; vector-related diseases; soil, water and sanitation-related diseases and cultural health practices. As a part of our approach, we evaluate opportunities to contribute to the health, safety and security in the communities where we operate.
In Indonesia, ExxonMobil's affiliate Mobil Cepu Limited launched a community-based water program to reduce waterborne diseases and promote healthier living in an area where many residents lack reliable access to clean water during the dry season. The community established a committee to manage the budget dedicated to constructing and monitoring water facilities as well as the distribution of water. In the Ngasem Village, a new water tower serves as the key source of potable water that is distributed to community households through an installed pipeline network.
