Why a career in STEM and energy matters

The people in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics – or STEM – have been helping to power much of the progress taking place in our world.

Some say that future workers will spend more than twice as much time on tasks that need STEM skills than they do today.

One of the major career opportunities that requires STEM talent is the energy sector, which touches every part of our lives from cooking at home, enabling passenger and commercial transportation, to powering heavy industry.

STEM professions within the energy sector include a range of different engineering disciplines – chemical, mechanical and robotic, to name a few – as well as software developers, analysts and more. No matter what your interests are, there is likely to be a job in the energy sector that meets them.

Energy Factor speaks to scientists to see what attracted them to STEM, and why energy is a bright 21st century career.
