Overview

ExxonMobil’s upstream affiliate in Equatorial Guinea, Mobil Equatorial Guinea Inc. (MEGI), is the largest oil producer in the country.

MEGI operates Block B, located offshore northwest of Bioko Island, in partnership with GEPetrol (23.75 percent) and Equatorial Guinea state (5 percent). The company’s headquarters and main offices are located in Malabo.

MEGI is committed to continuous efforts to improve safety and environmental performance throughout its operations, and in 2012, MEGI received the ExxonMobil President’s Operations Excellence Award. MEGI also supports, for the 16th year, the Bioko Biodiversity Protection Program in Equatorial Guinea in association with Drexel University and the National University of Equatorial Guinea. Bioko Island is known as a biodiversity hotspot and critical habitat for seven species of endangered monkeys and four species of nesting sea turtles.

MEGI has also dedicated considerable resources to programs in Equatorial Guinea with a focus on improving education and health, providing reliable sources of drinking water where it is most needed, and supporting capacity building in communities and the empowerment of women. Additionally, MEGI has participated in infrastructure improvement works and conservation programs. These contributions and community service projects are executed directly or through public/private partnerships and nongovernmental organizations.
