SAMREF - ExxonMobil and Saudi Aramco joint venture

Saudi Aramco Mobil Refinery

SAMREF is one of the world’s largest single-train crude oil refineries, and one of the most successful refineries in the Middle East. The refinery complex located in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia is equally-owned by Saudi Aramco and ExxonMobil. It commenced operations in 1984 and supplies high quality transportation fuels and other products to markets around the world.

Saudi Aramco Mobil Refinery

SAMREF is a main supplier of gasoline in the western region of the Kingdom as it processes approximately 400,000 barrels per day of Arabian Light crude, with over half of its output is consumed domestically. The refinery is ISO-9001 quality certified, an internationally recognized standard which has become a hallmark for the world’s most successful companies and facilities.

In 2014 SAMREF completed a multibillion-dollar project to reduce the sulfur content in gasoline and diesel products to ultra-low levels to improve air quality and meet growing demand for more advanced, cleaner-burning fuels that comply with international standards. This significantly reduces automobile emissions of sulfur oxides and demonstrates continuing commitment to environmental protection by ExxonMobil, Saudi Aramco and SAMREF.

Workforce development

Since its establishment, SAMREF has offered meaningful employment opportunities to Saudis who represent 90 percent of the workforce. To retain the highly-qualified Saudi workforce at SAMREF, there is a comprehensive talent management program focused on employee professional and leadership development.

Environmental compliance and protection

SAMREF operations comply with the Royal Commission's environmental regulations.
