Enhancing STEAM learning for underprivileged students

STEAM education is crucial for nurturing future scientists and engineers, especially for underprivileged students who often lack adequate learning resources. To expand access to STEAM education for more local underprivileged students, ExxonMobil Hong Kong (EMHK) supported the "STEAM – Curious, Explore, Discover!" program organized by St. James’ Settlement’s Grant-in-Aid Brightens Children’s Lives Service (GIA). From June to December, this six-month program included four 3D food printing experiential workshops, where 72 students from four local primary schools were taught how to design their own chocolate creations using computer software and produce them with a 3D printer. Following the workshops, each student received a STEAM learning kit to continue exploring STEAM applications in everyday life.

We hope this collaboration provides a valuable opportunity for students in need to explore STEAM concepts through fun-filled activities, preparing them to pursue further studies or careers in STEAM fields. We are committed to continuing our collaborations with various community partners to support STEAM education, foster youth development, and promote a caring culture in our society.
