ExxonMobil is committed to promoting STEAM education by empowering teachers, supporting students, and collaborating with leading educational organizations. In Hong Kong, we have exclusively supported the iSTEAM Program organized by the Center for Global & Community Engagement (GCE) at the School of Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), since its launch in 2016. This initiative aims to introduce students to the STEAM subjects and spark their interest in these fields.
This year’s program featured the Smartbot Sports Day, organized by HKUST students from various disciplines who were trained in STEAM project design. On November 9, around 150 P4-S3 local students and teachers from 15 primary and secondary schools engaged in weightlifting and fencing competitions using the robots they programmed under the guidance of 30 HKUST students. Those who demonstrated outstanding performances were presented with awards in recognition of their hard work and creativity. Seven colleagues from ExxonMobil Hong Kong (EMHK) served as volunteers while some of their kids also participated in the Sports Day.
Mabel Leung, ExxonMobil’s Asia Pacific Fuels Sales Director, and Tony Kwok, Hong Kong & Macau Fuels Sales Director, kicked off the event. “ExxonMobil is dedicated to enhancing STEAM knowledge among students and inspiring innovative ways to deliver STEAM education. By supporting this meaningful program, we hope to nurture the brightest engineers, scientists and STEAM educators of the future,” said Mabel.
Since its inception, the iSTEAM Program has engaged approximately 950 students. We are pleased to continue collaborating with HKUST to expand STEAM education opportunities for more students.
