Longford Quarterly Update - December 2024

In this update to our Longford Plants neighbours, Manager Clinton Gentle, highlights Longford’s Heliport 50th anniversary celebration and relationships with the community.

It has been one of the busiest years for our Gippsland operations as we worked to successfully deliver cessation of oil production. 13 offshore oil platforms have stopped producing oil after 55 years of production and our Longford gas plant operation has been reconfigured into a modern gas business to continue to reliably supply gas that Victoria can depend on. This was delivered with some extraordinary collaboration from our Esso teams and contracting partners. A big thank you to everyone who has worked at our sites over the last year and the many local businesses that have all supported us to achieve this significant milestone.

Last week, I also had the pleasure of attending BOC’s ribbon cutting ceremony along with Esso Australia’s leadership team, where we celebrated the official opening of their carbon dioxide processing facility in Longford.

Through our partnership with BOC, our Longford Plants will be able to capture and convert CO2 into an essential product for the Australian food and beverage industry as well as many essential services in hospitality, manufacturing and medical industries. This means that in the near future, the fizz in your beer or soft drinks could likely have been sourced from our Longford facility.

Our Longford Heliport also recently reached a significant milestone of 50 years of operation in Gippsland. We celebrated this by holding a special anniversary celebration dinner at our Heliport with team members from Esso Australia and key stakeholders from our Gippsland community in attendance. Our Leonardo AW139 helicopters are part of the company’s largest privately owned helicopter fleet, currently ferrying up to 45,000 passengers per year to and from our offshore platforms. As of October 2024, we have safely transported over 2.8 million passengers, completed ~ 225,000 flight hours and ~ 1.1 million landings since 1974.

It has been a privilege representing Esso Australia in the community this year. I have particularly enjoyed hearing many stories about the good old days, from grandparents that were working offshore in our early pioneering years through to people who were part of the construction of the original parts of the gas plant that we have now shut down. It’s amazing to be reminded how many families have been part of the Esso journey over 55 years. It’s also been great to be able to give back to our community through our contributions program - from sponsoring Ramahyuck’s Christmas party to celebrating our 50-year partnership with the Lions Club of Sale where we support their annual Christmas hampers program to families in need.

As we move towards the end of the year, I want to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season with your family and loved ones.
