Nearly two billion people across the region still have to burn wood, dung and crop waste for cooking and to heat their homes, which can create numerous health risks.

People who lack access to energy are also likely to lack access to health and education facilities, with women and children the most affected.

Access to safe and affordable energy truly makes life better, decreasing the impacts of poverty and improving the quality of life. It can mean reliable power so a child can study after the sun sets – giving them the opportunity for a better future – or a cooktop that uses cleaner burning natural gas, so that people don’t have to spend the day searching for fuel.
