ExxonMobil celebrates 11 years of support to Pequeno Principe Hospital
- In just over a decade, the company contributed around BRL 4.5 million to the institution through the Fund for Childhood and Adolescence (FIA) and the Culture Incentive Law
The allocation, carried out in the last 11 years, allowed the Hospital to invest in essential projects, such as the expansion of hospital and outpatient care; training and continuing education of health professionals; and fostering innovation and scientific research, contributing to improving the quality of life and reducing child mortality. The company's brand is present in several areas of the Hospital, in return for support through tax incentives.
To celebrate the milestone, the president of ExxonMobil in Brazil, Alberto Ferrin, was at the unit. He visited the Bone Marrow Transplant Service (BMT) and met with the corporate director of the Pequeno Príncipe Complex, José Álvaro Carneiro, to reinforce the support and continuity of investments in projects that impact the lives of children and adolescents assisted via Unified Health System (SUS).
Responsible for around 12% of all pediatric BMT procedures performed in Brazil, the service treats around 85% of patients through the SUS and 61% of them come from outside Curitiba. In 11 years, 408 bone marrow transplants were performed in Pequeno Príncipe, transforming the lives of children and adolescents across the country. In addition to the treatment of malignant diseases such as leukemia, the service also cares for patients with acquired and hereditary spinal cord failures, primary immunodeficiencies and rare diseases.
“We are very proud of our contribution to the Hospital over the last 11 years. In addition, our employees in Curitiba also act, voluntarily and proactively, with activities for the well-being of patients, which makes us even more engaged with the causes of Pequeno Príncipe”, says Alberto Ferrin, president of ExxonMobil Brazil.
With more than 100 years dedicated to child and youth health, the Hospital is a national reference in high and medium complexity care. It offers everything from consultations to complex treatments, such as kidney, liver, heart, bone and bone marrow transplants. It serves 35 specialties, with multidisciplinary teams, and has 378 beds, 68 in the ICU. In 2021, even with the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, around 200,000 consultations and 14,700 surgeries were performed, benefiting patients from all over Brazil.
