“Ever since I was a child, I have always loved creating things, and the idea of forming structure and order from chaos into something meaningful fascinated me. So, when it was time to consider my career path, I felt that engineering was the natural route for me,” commented Eva.

“My passion for engineering has allowed me to stay curious and pursue my career with great enthusiasm,” she added.

Eva’s current role as the Development Planning Lead for the Production Subsurface Group, sees her evaluating a range of technical and commercial concepts and integrating multi-functional teams for opportunity screening. She is also heavily involved in developing business case and supporting decision-making of major development opportunities.

As an extension to her role, Eva is also acting as the Turrum Phase 3 Project Manager where she is involved in leading a multi-disciplinary team which has brought the project from concept phase to detailed design and now heading into the final investment decision. This project will bring online additional resource from the Turrum gas field and will play a critical role in the continued supply of gas into the South-East Australia gas market.

“Throughout my time with the company, I have had the opportunity to take on a variety of roles within different teams that gave me insights to the areas of the business including Rotating Machinery, Maintenance and Reliability, Facilities and Operations, Greenhouse Gas & Energy, Environment and Regulatory Compliance, Risk Management and Process Safety, Development Planning and Project Management.”

“I am really grateful to the capable and caring people I have met and formed friendships with over the years and the invaluable lessons learnt during my time spent working at our operating facilities at our Longford and Long Island Point plants and offshore platforms,” Eva highlighted.

Eva recently achieved Fellow status through ExxonMobil’s Engineering Workforce Credentialing Program, a partnership with Engineers Australia. As a chartered engineer in Asset Management, Risk Management and Mechanical Engineering, she is recognised as a professional with the highest level of engineering competence and expertise.

One of her most memorable achievements to date is her involvement in the early stages of the carbon pricing mechanism when it was introduced in Australia. She was the Greenhouse Gas and Energy Advisor then and was successful in advocating for improvements to the greenhouse gas legislation with support from the Public and Government Affairs and Law teams. This enabled our industry to report more accurately and avoid overstating emissions which resulted in a 3 million reduction per year of emissions payment for our Gippsland-based assets.

Outside of work, Eva loves spending time with her fur baby, Ginger, who turns 4 in January! She’s also addicted to downhill skiing – an exhilarating sport that gives her a deep sense of fulfillment and motivation.

In the quieter moments, Eva enjoys playing the piano and composing music. During her university days, she co-wrote several songs that was later published which unexpectedly led to her reaping a small sum of royalty!

Reflecting on her career, she states that her greatest learning moment has been the necessity of embracing risk and uncertainty – both of which are inevitable elements in our operations and life itself.

“Over the years, work has taught me how to identify, measure and manage risk – all useful tools that help us navigate the midst of uncertainty. In a world that has become more complex and unpredictable, it is great to be equipped with these principles. For me it’s about being courageous with a growth mindset and living life wholeheartedly.”

“I also want to thank my technical mentors during my early career – Graham Canning, Paul Grey, John Gibbeson, Dominic Maton and Andrew Mathers. Their collective wisdom and work ethics taught me the value and importance of “making time to get it right the first time” and that has set the tone in everything I do which is so critically important in our industry,” Eva highlighted.
