Philippa, or Pip, as most people know her, was recently selected as a finalist in the Victorian division of the
2020 Engineers Australia Young Professional Engineer of the Year awards.
The awards recognise outstanding engineers who are using their advanced technical skills, innovation and resourcefulness to make a significant contribution to the engineering profession, their industry and the community.
Due to physical distancing requirements, Engineers Australia held a virtual awards ceremony on 17 September.
While Pip didn’t end up winning the award, she said she was humbled, proud and excited to have been shortlisted alongside some very talented peers.
“I was truly honoured to be nominated for this award by a senior engineer who I worked with in my previous role, let alone be selected as a finalist,” said Pip.
“I have had amazing experiences across varied and challenging roles with ExxonMobil and I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work with, and learn from, so many incredible people along the way.”
Starting as a graduate with the Gippsland Production team in 2008, Pip has held technical, commercial and supervisory roles, mainly in the upstream business, which have provided her with a wealth of experience and knowledge.
Pip has had the opportunity to work in a dozen countries and support major projects, including the Kipper Tuna Turrum gas development. As well as engineering and Corporate Planning roles, Pip has also worked as a Regional Internal Auditor, which gave her the opportunity to learn about our broader operations, including support services and the fuels refining, distribution and aviation businesses.
Pip has now returned to the Gippsland Production team as an Offshore Maintenance Supervisor for the Decommissioning Asset platforms, and the Metering and Critical Function Testing teams.
ExxonMobil Australia Production Manager Stu Jeffries acknowledged that Pip has had a unique career with the company – seven different roles in twelve years, across a wide range of the business. Her skills and approach in all those roles have made her a valuable and treasured member of the team.
“It is wonderful that Pip has been recognised for her strong contribution to the engineering profession. She is a fantastic role model for other engineers in our company and we are so proud that her achievements have been recognised by Engineers Australia,” he said.
