ExxonMobil is working cooperatively with federal and state agencies to address fuel needs in the region. Since August 23, we have provided more than 260,000 barrels or nearly 11 million gallons of fuel -- enough to fill more than 1,300 truckloads -- to Southeast Louisiana. Our priority is to ensure our Fuels Terminal has fuel to meet local emergency responder and community demand. We have inventory on hand to continue to supply the terminal, and we anticipate meeting local needs.
Under certain emergency circumstances like Hurricane Ida, the release of the Department of Energy’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) oil can be beneficial to offset the loss of, or access to other crude oil.
Due to crude oil transportation issues created by Hurricane Ida, ExxonMobil has requested up to 1.5 million barrels of crude oil. Our main focus has been to restore fuel production to supply gasoline and diesel needed in the local Louisiana market, and the SPR release is an important step in achieving that goal.
We are currently in the process of starting up the Baton Rouge refinery and returning to normal operations as third-party utilities become available.
