  • Winners will be announced on October 19th, and the prizes are worth a total of R$123,200.00
  • The 60th award ceremony will be held on November 12th

After 45 days, and more than 5,000 analysis, a panel of 35 journalists, university professors, and media professionals selected the 70 finalists (see full list below) that will compete for 14 awards during the 60th edition of ExxonMobil Journalism Awards. There were 1,021 entries for the 2015 edition. Winners will be announced on October 19th.

The finalists are divided into 35 written works, 15 graphic design entries, 10 photographic submissions and 10 television journalism works. During the first phase of the analysis process, all texts and images were examined by at least three judges. The best rated written entries then underwent a new round of analysis by teams of four, six and even 10 judges. In total, the 1021 submissions to the ExxonMobil Journalism Awards this year were examined by the judges over 5,000 times.

The print media, TV journalism and photography categories will have their winners chosen by separate committees. For print media, the winners will be chosen by an award committee of five journalists during an in-person meeting in Rio de Janeiro. The winner of the ExxonMobil Television Journalism Award will be selected by the special awards committee, also with judges involved. The winning photograph for the ExxonMobil Photography Award will be chosen from among 10 finalists via Internet by a special panel of 50 photo editors from all across Brazil.

Over their 60 years of existence, an estimated 33,000 projects have been submitted for evaluation by the committees, making this award the most important, traditional and disputed for the Brazilian press.

ExxonMobil, which will celebrate its 103 years of operations in Brazil, has been sponsoring the awards for 60, uninterrupted years. All winners of this 60th edition will be announced on October 19th in a press release to be posted on www.premioexxonmobil.com.br.

SUPPORT FOR JOURNALISM

One of the largest private oil and gas companies in the world, ExxonMobil, encompassing the brands Esso, Mobil, Exxon and XTO, is present in about 200 countries and territories. In Brazil, it is the oldest oil exploration company and has been operating for 103 years. Currently, the company engages in activities in the areas of Exploration and Production, Chemicals and Service Provision in the cities of Curitiba, São Paulo, Paulínia and Rio de Janeiro, with over 1,600 employees in Brazil.

ExxonMobil has supported Brazilian journalism for over 70 years, sponsoring programs such as “Repórter Esso”, an historic Brazilian radio and television news show and the Esso Journalism Awards, now called the ExxonMobil Journalism Award.

In the corporate citizenship sphere, ExxonMobil operates around the world on three fronts: economic development of women, education and health. The Company has several programs in Brazil, including Programa Mais in Rio de Janeiro, in partnership with CIEE-RJ, which prepares low-income students for entry into university, and Grife Refazer, in partnership with the Refazer Institute, offering vocational training for mothers of children and adolescents suffering from severe and chronic illnesses, and who are under treatment at the Fernandes Figueira Institute.

In Curitiba, the partnership with Hospital Pequeno Príncipe, through the Ciranda das Artes project, provides children and adolescents undergoing treatment at the hospital with the opportunity to experiment with different art techniques and languages, making their hospitalization time go by faster. The Volunteer Involvement Program (VIP) works to encourage employees and their families to volunteer.

To select the 2015 finalists, various committees examined 512 print articles and series of articles; 151 photographic submissions; 284 graphic design works (Newspaper, Magazine, and Front Page), and 71 television journalism entries.
