Mobil Producing Nigeria partners with FRSC on road safety awareness
Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN) has partnered with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to initiate a nationwide “Public Enlightenment and Intervention Campaign on Road Safety” program, which aims to support the agency’s target to reduce current national road accidents rates by 50 percent and attendant fatalities by 20 percent over a 12 month period.

The initiative involves a robust data-based intervention, awareness and education drive over 12 months across several States in Nigeria, and is a direct response to data compiled over the five years leading to 2012, which identified the most accident/fatality prone roads across the country. The campaign was launched by the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the FRSC, Osita Chidoka, at the Commission’s secretariat in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Udom Inoyo, Executive Director, Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPN), stated the commitment and support of MPN to the project. He said that MPN chose to partner with FRSC on the campaign because of the high premium which the company places on safety, as well as the company’s confidence in the ability of FRSC to tackle carnage on the roads.
“We are confident that the Commission’s objectives of reducing traffic crashes by 50 percent and attendant fatalities by 20 percent in the next 12 months in line with the United Nations Decade of Action on Partnership will be achieved.”
In addition to financial support to the FRSC, MPN will also share insights, global best practices and safety processes to augment the Commission’s work. With the additional support from MPN under the program, the Federal Road Safety Commission hopes to turn around the country’s ailing road safety record.
