Butyl is a unique low-permeability elastomer, and a preferred material for manufacturers of high-quality tires and medical stoppers in Japan.
ExxonMobil Japan G.K. domestically markets and exports butyl manufactured by Japan Butyl Co. Ltd (head office: Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture). JBC is a fifty-fifty joint venture between JSR Corporation (head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo) and ExxonMobil Japan G.K.
JBC has plants in Kawasaki and Kashima. The two plants are expected to manufacture 80,000 tons per year of halogenated butyl rubber, and 18,000 tons per year of regular butyl rubber.
