Production and handling

Sokol, a Russian Falcon, was approved by the Sakhalin-1 partners as the name for Sakhalin-1 crude production. The Sakhalin-1 Project consists of three fields Chayvo, Odoptu and Arkutun-Dagi offshore from the northeast coast of Sakhalin Island and the Russian Far East. Together they contain an estimated 2.3 billion barrels of oil and 17.1 trillion cubic feet of gas.

Load Port Data

Sokol crude is exported from the Sakhalin-1 DeKastri Terminal which has two tanks with 1.3 million barrels storage and a specially designed elevated single point mooring (SPM) system that can operate through severe winter ice conditions.

In winter a portion of the Tartar Straits, the body of water between the Russian mainland and Sakhalin Island, is covered with ice. In order to provide safe, reliable and environmentally sound transportation, the Sakhalin-1 project acquired a dedicated fleet of five ice strengthened Aframax size tankers to transport Sokol crude to the market. The Sakhalin-1 project also hired two high-powered ice breakers and several other specially designed vessels to support year round export operations.
