Our Houston campus

ExxonMobil's state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Downstream, Chemicals and XTO Energy companies and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

By bringing many global functional groups together, the campus provides employees with the tools and capabilities needed today, and in the future, to achieve business objectives and accelerate the discovery of new resources, technologies and products. It was designed to foster improved collaboration, creativity and innovation and enhance the company’s ability to attract, develop and retain the top talent in the industry.

The campus is located in Spring, Texas, on 385 wooded acres immediately to the west of Interstate Highway 45 (I-45), at the intersection of I-45 and the Hardy Toll Road, approximately 25 miles from the cultural vibrancy of downtown Houston.

The campus was constructed to the highest standards of energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. Its design incorporates extensive research into best practices in building and workplace design through extensive benchmarking of the world’s top academic, research, and corporate facilities. 

Sustainability

Sustainability touches all aspects of the campus including energy and water efficiency, land management, building and facilities programs, and transit. The site was designed for and obtained Gold level certification with the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) standard.

The office buildings harvest daylight and are designed to be 40 percent more energy efficient than a typical office building. For example, offices utilize window features that allow the optimal amount of sunlight into office buildings while minimizing radiant heat and the need for artificial lighting.

Water management is another key component of the campus sustainability program. Rainfall is captured onsite and used for irrigation and facility use with more than 80 percent of water being non-potable. Potable water use is at least 90 percent less than the national average for typical office buildings.

The campus also protects and enhances the biodiversity on the site, with approximately 80 percent of the campus remaining vegetated or covered by two lakes. Since its construction, invasive plant species have been removed from the site and re-vegetation programs have increased tree species to 90 (from 20 previously).

A summary of major campus components includes:

  • Campus
    The 385-acre ExxonMobil Campus features multiple low-rise office buildings, a meeting and training center, a laboratory, wellness center, child development centers, and dining and retail amenities.
  • Energy Center
    The Energy Center is the campus’ iconic building designed to embody the company's commitment to leading technology and engineering. A main feature of the building is a 10,000-ton "floating cube" that appears to hover over a plaza below, offering a spectacular view of the campus. 
  • Laboratory
    The Laboratory is ExxonMobil's premier research and physical science facility designed to stimulate innovation and accelerate discovery.
  • Wellness Center
    The Wellness Center features a three-story glass atrium, cardio and strength training facilities and classes, a basketball court, personal training services and healthy dining options.
  • Office buildings
    Multi-story atriums in all office buildings provide a large-scale entry and gathering place for employees, encouraging collaboration and inviting natural light inside.  Bridges on the upper levels connect across the atria and allow ease of movement around the buildings.
