MPN donates over N50 Million to organizations in Akwa Ibom State

In response to request for various support, Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN), operator of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/MPN Joint Venture, has presented cheques worth over Fifty Million Naira to twelve Community Based Organizations (CBOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Professional Organizations in Akwa Ibom State.

The beneficiary groups were Arts and Skills Development Initiative (N7,000,000.00), Eket; the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council (N6,000,000.00); Providence Home, Uyo (N1,000,000.00); Ibom Premium Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Esit Eket (N4,000,000.00); Pillars Forum (Uyo) Multipurpose Cooperative Society (N6,500,000.00); Intercontinental Friends Multi-purpose Cooperative Society, Onna (N3,000,000.00); Ulok Ulok Peoples Assembly, Ibeno (N3,500,00.00); Ibeno Youth Presidents' Forum (N3,500,000.00); Onna Youth Council (N3,000,000.00); Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State Branch (N600,000.00); Community Partners for Development, Uyo (N5,990,000.00) and Light Bearers Organization, Eket (N6,990,000.00).

Speaking at the event, MPN's team lead and representative of the General Manager, Joint Venture Operations, Mike Attah pointed out that the donations were to assist the beneficiary organizations to implement their various projects and programs targeted at specific developmental and empowerment initiatives in some communities in the State. Mr. Attah enumerated some of MPN's other contributions towards the development of Akwa Ibom State and the empowerment of her people in the areas of education, health, sports, infrastructure, rural electrification, water supply, etc.

The Manager, Public and Government Affairs, Joint Venture Operations, Mrs. Regina Udobong noted that the beneficiary groups which had earlier written to request for the MPN's support/sponsorship of their programmes, were selected only after satisfactory due diligence, to ascertain they had the management and accountability systems to steward and account for the support received. She congratulated the twelve organizations and charged them to put the support received to judicious use.

On his part, the Special Guest of Honor and Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke, represented by the Deputy Speaker, Princess Felicia Bassey, commended MPN for the gesture and for her several other contributions to the State.

"No other corporate organization does it as good as MPN when it comes to contributions to the development of the State and the empowerment of its people. While we expect a wider spread of the donation gesture, we call on other organizations to emulate the shining examples of the NNPC/MPN Joint Venture."

Other speakers who also commended the NNPC/MPN Joint Venture's gesture included a former Federal Minister of Lands and Housing, Chief Nduese Essien; the Paramount Ruler of Ibeno LGA/Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, HRM Owong (Dr.) Effiong Archianga; the Local Government Transition Committee Chairmen for Eket (Hon. Frank Archibong), Ibeno (High Chief Williams Mkpah) and Onna (Dr. Joshua Ndoho).

Responding on behalf of the beneficiary organizations, the Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Elder Patrick Albert and the Project Coordinator, Arts and Skills Development Iniative, Ms. Emem Nkereuwem expressed appreciation to the NNPC/MPN Joint Venture for the support and pledged to judiciously utilize the funds for the purpose intended.

The NNPC/MPN Joint Venture had last year donated a total sum of Twenty Three Million Naira (N23, 000,000.00) to eight orphanage and destitute homes in the State to support their upkeep and facility upgrade at the centers.
