Ibeno Community crowns Paramount Ruler, MPN shows solidarity

The people of Ibeno Local Government Area, the closest community to Qua Iboe Terminal (QIT), in Akwa Ibom State recently rolled out drums to celebrate the coronation and traditional investiture of His Royal Majesty, Owong (Dr.) Effiong Bassey Archianga, as their Paramount Ruler.

The coronation ceremony held at Primary School grounds, Mkpanak in Ibeno LGA and attracted the crème la crème of the society including the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel; his Deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo, MFR; the Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke; Secretary to State Government, Sir Etekamba Umoren; past and present members of the National and State Assemblies; other government functionaries, traditional rulers, captains of industry, community chieftains, socio-cultural organizations, women and youth groups.

As a socially responsible corporate citizen that reveres the culture of its community and is one with the people of Nigeria, Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN), a subsidiary of ExxonMobil and operator of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/MPN Joint Venture, identified with Akwa Ibom State Government and the good people of Ibeno LGA on the occasion. MPN's Management in attendance comprised the General Manager, Joint Venture Operations, Tom Benjaminsen and spouse, Ellen; General Manager, Public and Government Affairs, Paul Arinze; Manager, P&GA, JVO, Regina Udobong and other personnel from P&GA and Law departments (Aniefiok Idiok, Isong Ukot, Ekpotu Uquang and Umoh Joshua).

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Udom Emmanuel congratulated Owong Archianga, extolled his leadership qualities and commended his sundry contributions to community development and the sustenance of peace.

Governor Udom particularly acknowledged the commitment of the community to the sustenance of peace in the environment, urging the youths to desist from any unwholesome act that may portend threats to the business operations of oil and gas companies operating in the area, in the interest of all. The Governor also urged the traditional rulers in the State to continue in their stead as the purveyors of peace and unity for the progress and development of the State.

In their separate remarks, the Paramount Ruler of Ibeno who doubles as the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, as well as the Transition Committee Chairman of Ibeno LGA, High Chief Williams Mkpah expressed gratitude to all for the support and pledged to sustain their drive to making Ibeno remain a home of peace, unity and development in the Niger Delta region.
