EEPNL commissions, hands over newly constructed sick bay

Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL) has commissioned and formally handed over a newly constructed/equipped sick bay to Victoria Island group of secondary schools.

The sick bay will serve the four schools in the complex: Kuramo Junior and Senior Secondary School, Victoria Island Junior and Senior Secondary School. The project was executed through Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial Foundation (DOAMF), a Non-governmental Organization (NGO).

In 2015, DOAMF requested for the EEPNL's financial support to enable them provide a sick bay to Victoria Island group of primary and secondary schools as part of their Health is Wealth project. EEPNL supported the renovation and equipping of the sick bay to the tune of N 2.7 million and the construction / equipping and provision of medical cost N 4.7 million respectively.

Commenting on the sick bay, Dr. Babatunde Adekunle representing ExxonMobil Chief Medical Director; Dr. Bello Aliyu reminded the local government and school authorities that the sick bay would serve as an immediate care center and does not replace a hospital or clinic. He urged the school to maintain and utilize the sick bay to the benefit of everyone.

The DOAMF Chairman Representative, Sir Nnamdi Onyeka in his address during the commissioning ceremony thanked the sponsor of the project, EEPNL for making the project a reality. He emphasized on the foundation’s dedication to the enhancement of the education and health of the less privileged, particularly vulnerable children in the society.

Speaking on behalf of the Lagos State Governor, the Executive Secretary, Iru Victoria Island, Yomi Daramola expressed his delight on the project. “The state government is very happy with ExxonMobil for their numerous good corporate citizenship projects executed in the state over the years,” he stated.
