Update: Response to fuel leak at Lyttelton Terminal

Mobil is continuing to work with the authorities to respond to a jet fuel leak at the Lyttelton Terminal. The tank was severely damaged from a landslide from a hill next to the terminal, following storms and heavy rainfall on Tuesday night.

The product was captured within a concrete walled containment area around the tank. Efforts to recover the product from the containment area have been hampered by weather and safety issues. Our key focus today is on safely implementing operations to pump out the containment area.

Some jet fuel has escaped into the harbour. Our priority is to prevent any further release of product into the water.

We are working with the Harbour Master to assist in their efforts in responding to the fuel in the harbour.

We apologise for any disruption or inconvenience that this is causing our neighbours. Our concern continues to be the safety of our employees, contractors and the community.

Our supply organisation is working closely with our customers in relation to ongoing supply arrangements.

Further information will be provided when available.
