ExxonMobil Egypt continues to support the Egyptian Family Development Initiative in partnership with Alashanek Ya Balady Association for Sustainable Development

CAIRO — Following the success of the Egyptian Family Development Initiative in Alexandria, ExxonMobil Egypt, active partner in the development of the Egyptian society for more than 110 years, has announced the expansion of the initiative to include Cairo, in cooperation with Alashanek Ya Balady Association for Sustainable Development.
  • An integrated development plan aiming to empower Egyptian families and improve their standard of living
  • The positive impact of the ExxonMobil-AYB initiative in Alexandria stimulated ExxonMobil Egypt to repeat the program in Cairo
  • ExxonMobil Egypt is looking forward to having more families benefit from the initiative

The initiative aims to provide development services and financial support to a number of families in order to help them raise their living standards. The selection process is based on a thorough assessment conducted by Alashanek Ya Balady Association in order to select the least fortunate families to be included in the program. In this phase realized in Cairo, seven families from Ain al-Sira and AlQalaa in Misr al-Qadima were selected to benefit from the program.

Eng. Hesham Elamroussy, Chairman and Managing Director of ExxonMobil Egypt praised this initiative, which focuses on achieving an integrated development plan for Egyptian families to help them overcome their challenging living conditions. “After the success of this initiative in Alexandria, our enthusiasm and sense of pride increased, we were therefore encouraged to replicate it to Cairo, in an attempt to increase the number of beneficiary families,” Mr. Elamroussy added. “We are looking forward to spread the initiative in other governorates. We also looking forward to strengthening our collaboration with the local communities associations and state institutions involved in supporting development projects with the ultimate goal of eradicating chronic societal problems related to education, health and development”.

It is worth mentioning that the initiative is based on three programs: educational courses, life skills development and job opportunities and small projects start-up aiming to raise health awareness and narrow the gap between supply and demand on the labor market.

One of the female beneficiaries from Ain al-Sira, said: “In light of the harsh living conditions and the increasing demands of my family, I had to seek a source of livelihood to pursue a decent living. With God’s help, I managed to get a loan that allowed me to rent a space to sell home supplies, brought from suppliers in Al-Muski and Al-Qalaa, and thanks to my experience in this field, now my business is doing very well. Many thanks to all who helped me with my small project,” she added.

Founder and CEO of Alashanek Ya Balady Association for Sustainable Development, Dr. Raghda El-Ebrashy, said, “We are honored to collaborate with ExxonMobil Egypt’s workgroup in this project, especially that it is one of the few initiatives that mainly focuses on the actual development of the family and ensuring long-term results to both families and society”.

“Such programs lie mainly within the objectives of the developmental association. Following the program’s success, we look forward to more collaboration in order to disseminate the comprehensive developmental model for families and generalize it all over Egypt,” she added.
