Scholarship program for research

With a college graduation rate 20 percent below the average of the rest of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development countries, there is a critical need to raise undergraduate completion rates in Mexico.

In 2012, ExxonMobil Mexico launched the ExxonMobil Scholarship Program for Research, in collaboration with the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Institute of International Education. The program offers financial aid, mentorship from ExxonMobil Mexico executives, and English and leadership workshops to outstanding students in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The scholarship program also equips students with critical tools needed to conduct research projects, such as laptops, books and subscriptions to scientific magazines and journals. Students participating in this program pursuing mathematics, petroleum engineering, geophysics, chemistry and civil engineering from UNAM have successfully graduated, and many of them have continued their studies abroad. Through this program, ExxonMobil Mexico hopes to inspire undergraduates to pursue careers in the energy sector.
