Increasing opportunities for disabled individuals at French museum

ExxonMobil donation provides increased opportunities for disabled individuals at a popular museum.

In 2013, Esso S.A.F., an affiliate of ExxonMobil, developed a partnership with the popular Musée des Civilisations de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée (MuCEM) in Marseilles, France. Concerned with issues of accessibility, MuCEM has implemented several initiatives focused on accessibility for people with disabilities. In 2013 and 2014, Esso S.A.F. donated approximately $16,000 to the museum to develop features to make the center more accessible for the hearing impaired.

In 2013, MuCEM used the Esso S.A.F. funds to pay for sign language translation for three shows running at the museum theater. The 2014 donation financed a video, with subtitles, introducing a key exhibition launching in 2015 that will be accessible to the hearing impaired.

MuCEM is a cultural center that brings together all disciplines of the social sciences and presents artistic expression from the Mediterranean's two shores. The museum showcases temporary exhibitions and seminars, feature films and documentaries addressing the major issues affecting current affairs in the Mediterranean, such as social, religious and political transformations in the region.
